BCN, BCN-T Certification - BCIA Training

BCIA

This is the first step in the certification process for many budding clinicians. This is like earning a Bachelor’s degree in the field of neurotherapy. This credential signals to the world that you have done the hard work to learn what the field of neurotherapy is all about (by taking a 36-hour course), including proficient use of equipment on clients (100 hours), experiencing of neurotherapy from the client’s chair (10+ sessions), and receiving mentorship from a BCIA-certified professional in the field (25 hours).

BCN-T Certification (Board Certified in Neurotherapy for Technician)

A neurotherapy technician is a non-licensed practitioner who is working under a BCIA-certified, medically-licensed practitioner (types of licenses neurotherapists have include psychology, marriage and family therapy, professional clinical counseling, registered nurses, medical doctors, chiropractors and acupuncturists). 

This certification is only valid while the technician is working under a licensed and certified professional.

Requirements for Technician Certification

  1. Submit an application to the BCIA here. 
  2. Pay the registration fee. Fees vary depending on location. For more info, view the fee structure here
  3. Take a live or online Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology, or Physiological Psychology course and provide a transcript or proof of successful completion. An approved list is here.
  4. Take a 20 hour course or our 36-hour didactic training course (if you plan to earn your license, choose the 36 hour course).  [INSERT LINK TO COURSE PAGE]
  5. 10 hours of documented time with a BCIA approved mentor
  6. Register for the Certification Exam

    2. The fee for the examination is $275 and can be submitted here.

 

BCN Certification  (Board Certified in Neurofeedback)

The order of 3 through 5 need not be sequential.

  1. Submit an application to the BCIA here. 
  2. Pay the registration fee. Fees vary depending on location. For more info, view the fee structure here
  3. Take a live or online Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology, or Physiological Psychology course and provide a transcript or proof of successful completion. An approved list is here.
  4. Take our 36-hour didactic training course.  [INSERT LINK TO COURSE PAGE]
  5. Find a BCN-Approved Mentor and complete/document the following sessions:
    •  Personal Neurofeedback Training Demonstrating Ability to Self Regulate – 10 sessions
    •  Clinical Neurofeedback Treatment with Clients/Patients – 100 sessions
    •  Neurofeedback Case Studies with mentor – 10 Presentations (BCIA will also allow for 1 contact hour and 2 case conference presentation hours if mentees attend BCIA Neurofeedback webinars)
    •  25 contact hours, 2 of which must be face-to-face. In these sessions, the mentor must document and sign off that the mentee has completed:

Board certification in neurotherapy ensures that practitioners have received appropriate training and have demonstrated their ability to use neurofeedback techniques effectively and safely. It can also provide assurance to clients that they are working with a qualified professional in the field of neurofeedback
